  • IAB Special Event: "The Big Cookie Event"

Presentation by Jan Decorte and Ann Fromont regarding "What’s the impact of the cookie law for your business?" on the occasion of the seminar organised by IAB, Burssels, 5 July 2012.

This seminar explains you the impact of the new rules on the use of cookies by websites in Belgium, The Netherlands and the rest of Europe. On 21 June, the Belgian Parliament has approved the Telecom law which offers consumers transparent information on the use of cookies and offers them a consent option, via the web browser settings.

10.30 Welcome

11.00 What’s the impact of the cookie law for your business?
Jan Decorte & Ann Fromont (KOAN Legal Strategies) – NL&FR
The new cookie law speaks of informing the consumer and offering consent. But what does this really mean? Do you have to show a pop-up before visitors can enter the site? Do consumers have to opt-in or to opt-out?

11.20 Who’s affected by the new cookie law?
Tim Sturtewagen (Adhese) – NL
Every website that uses cookies to improve the surf experience of the visitor, to measure the visits or to offer more relevant advertising, must respect the new law. Are only the website publishers affected, or also the advertisers with their own sites, the sales houses and the agencies?

11. 40 Remarketing, Retargeting, tracking and OBA: how to comply with the IAB self regulation program?

Lucile Barjot (IAB Europe)
 – FR
As the privacy sensitivity for tracking cookies is higher for consumers than for functional cookies, IAB Europe has developed under supervision of the European Commission a self regulation program for OBA. What does it say and what has your company to do to comply with it?

12.00 Q&A on the Belgian cookie rules & OBA self regulation

12.10 The opt-in cookie rules in The Netherlands
Lauren van der Heijden (IAB NL) – NL
As one of the only EU-countries, the Dutch parliament has approved an opt-in for all cookies. But what does this mean in practice? Can Belgian sites also be affected by the Dutch law?

12.40 How to respect the law in the rest of the EU?

Lucile Barjot (IAB Europe) – FR
Although all national laws are based upon the same EU Directive, every country can define a different interpretation. This presentation gives you a quick overview and focusses on our neighbouring countries: France, UK and Germany

12.55 Q&A on the EU cookie rules

13.00  Networking Lunch
